Charles V De Vet's "Delayed Action" (short story, mystery, free): Why would a man consciously lose own his memory?

Imagine a time machine that moves you 20 years ahead every time you pass through it, but without aging you. But it does extract a drastic price as a side-effect: you'll lose almost your entire memory if you use it. Author thinks up a case where someone might want to use consciously.

Device in the story is a natural one: "Moebius Strip", a curious geological feature on the alien world called Marlock.
