** Robert A. Heinlein's "Universe" (novella, science fiction)

A very well written variation of a technology civilization falling on primitive times, & eventually a hero who sees the possibility of a different future. Story is set on a huge slower-than-light spaceship - originally headed for Centauri on a 60 year journey but now adrift in space for unknown reasons for hundreds of years; descendants of crew form this primitive society & a religion around the ship's documents they've inherited.

Read this story in the late 70s and adapted the idea of a self contained sphere looking for a home to tell a tale of 4 children who gradually learn the truth of where they are to my 7th grade Math class on Friday afternoons in the American School in Cochabamba Bolivia1. Highly successful.Made them work hard and do their Math homework the rest of the week!
