Robert J Martin's "Beyond Pandora" (flash fiction, tissue regeneration, free): From fear to control to harnessing a dangerous "thing"

Idea is interesting: "Take 'fire' for example: Man lived in fear of fire for a good many hundred-thousand years--and rightly so, because he hadn't learned to control it. The principle's the same; First you learn to protect yourself from a thing; then control it; and, eventually, we learn to 'harness' it for a useful purpose."

But the story didn't really work for me. In this future world with easily available tissue regeneration, the miracle came about by harnessing a most dreaded disease of the past...
