Mary Shelley's "The Invisible Girl" (short story, non-genre, love story, free)

Story itself is very simple & familiar: rich widowed man adopts an orphaned girl & raises her with his own son. Girl & boy fall in love. Dad disapproves. Lot of tears. Eventually, happy ending.

Reading it, however, required some effort. Very long paragraphs & some really old words. And while the story is clearly non-genre, presentation is ... sort of ... creepy - ghost story like.

Note: In spite of title, the story has nothing to do with invisibility, as is known to science fiction.

Fact sheet.

First published: 1832. Where?

Hello. I have been reading about the history if Mary Shelly, I read some little part of it, but you are right, long paragraphs so I will wait and read it when I have more time. I'm just glad someone wrote a blog about it.

You asked about where it was first published. That would be the Nov/Dec 1832 edition of "The Keepsake for MDCCCXXXIII", pp. 210-27.

Hi. I read this story and I was wondering, why was it entitled "The Invisible Girl" if it has nothing to do with the invisibility? Please answer. It's our homework. Lol.
