Yoon Ha Lee on readers' expectations when picking up a short story collection in whatever form
At F&SF Forum: "I open up sf/f magazines or anthologies with a general expectation that, on a good day, one or two of the stories is brilliant, a few are good, a few are mediocre or frankly boring, maybe a couple are freaking incomprehensible, and I think the rest are completely incompetent. I am generally right, and I don't feel cheated, because my other expectation is that someone else who opens up the same zine or antho will probably find a similar spread, except with the specific stories shuffled around, if that makes sense?"
