Clifford D Simak: Is "Way Station" a novelization of "The Big Front Yard"?

This "Way Station" post by Sam Jordison at Guardian makes the story sound suspiciously like a longer version of the short story "The Big Front Yard". I've only read the shorter version. Can someone confirm if "Way Station" is indeed a novelization of this story?
