Chris Adrian's "A Tiny Feast" (novelette, free): Faeries kidnap a human baby for a pet, & magic begins to happen

Illustration accompanying the original publication in The New Yorker, 20 April 2009, of short story titled A Tiny Feast by Chris AdrianOberon, a faerie husband, has kidnapped a human baby & presented it to his wife Titania as a pet - a gift to mollify her after a domestic quarrel. This is a lighthearted story of the pet becoming the son, as the growing boy stirs strange emotions in his faerie parents.

Large parts of the story are about the child's struggle with leukemia. Even this part is light, sometimes humorous, read - except for his eventual death near end.
