Free fiction: Old stories

This is the last post of links I began posting Sunday. All stories are at Internet Archive. A few have already been online elsewhere.

  1. Alfred Coppel's "The Rebel Of Valkyr"; download: "A space opera novella with princesses, horses, androids, swords and more."
  2. Basil Wells' "Fog of the Forgotten"; download: "A wild adventure of the Planetary Romance variety."
  3. Clark Ashton Smith's "The Immortals of Mercury"; download.
  4. Cordwainer Smith's "Scanners Live in Vain"; download.
  5. Edgar Rice Burroughs' "A Princess of Mars"; download: "A sub-genre defining work of planetary romance."
  6. [novel] Emmett McDowell's "Sword of Fire"; download.
  7. Erik Fennel's "Black Priestess of Varda"; download: "A science fantasy novel in the vein of Henry Kuttner's Dark World."
  8. Garrett P. Serviss' "Edison's Conquest of Mars"; download audiobook: "published in 1898 as an unauthorized sequel to H. G. Wells's The War of the Worlds, but did not achieve the fame of its predecessor. The book was endorsed by Thomas Edison, the hero of the book -- though not by Wells."

Going by a review on the linked page, it's about human retaliation after Martian attack in The War of the Worlds.

It's a LibriVox audiobook; so I suppose a text version should be at Project Gutenberg.
  9. James Morgan Walsh's "Vandals of the Void"; download: "A solar system space opera of the planetary romance variety."
  10. Otis Adelbert Kline's "Outlaws of Mars"; download.
  11. Otis Adelbert Kline's "Planet of Peril"; download.
  12. Philip Francis Nowlan's "The Airlords of Han"; download.
  13. Raymond A Palmer's "The Vengeance of Martin Brand"; download: "A solar system space opera story along the lines of Leigh Brackett."
  14. Robert E. Howard's "Almuric"; download: "A planetary romance in the Edgar Rice Burroughs tradition."
  15. Stanley G. Weinbaum's "A Martian Odyssey"; download: This has been online a long time elsewhere.
