H G Wells' "The Chronic Argonauts" (novelette, time travel, free)

This is supposed to be the first time machine story of science fiction, predating author's own "The Time Machine" (download) by 7 years. Time machine in this story is called "the Chronic Argo, the ship that sails through time".

Story summary.

An ordinary Welsh village of Llyddwdd gets a lot of excitement as a mysterious stranger suddenly begins occupying the village's haunted house. A stranger with a strange taste in things mechanical.

Made me smile several times.
