Kurt Vonnegut's "Hundred-Dollar Kisses" (short story, non-genre)

A cop is questioning a man on why he hit his office colleague on the head with a telephone receiver hard enough to send the victim to hospital. Very interesting reason.

It starts out light enough, but it has the authors' usual hard hitting ending.
