10 novels selected from the new breed of hard sf

John at SF Signal yesterday linked a mislabeled post at io9 by Annalee Newitz titled "10 Books that Prove Science Fiction Just Got Harder".

It's really a list of 10 hard sf novels that abandon the classical style & themes of 1940s & 50s, & sort of modernize the idea of hard sf.

I actually found Vernor's Vinge's "Rainbows End" (last year's Hugo Award winner) utterly boring - the only book I've read from the list. But I still find the list intriguing - may be will pick up one or two from the list & see how it goes.
