What do you think of the hard science included in this story- considering the scientific knowledge at the time it was written- of life forms based on something else besides Carbon...?

Even now, we know little of life forms besides those that are carbon-based - not counting the few sulfur-based (?) things found in high temperature under-sea vents.

I don't recall much hard science from this story - the only interesting part was the various alien life forms.
