Every Day Fiction does not publish fanfiction; regardless of any parallels you may draw between it and any other story, it was submitted to us as a stand-alone piece of original fiction and we published it as such.

Unless you have confirmation from the author that it was written as fanfiction, I would ask that you withdraw the term "fanfic" from the title of the review, since to the best of our knowledge "Micro-Transactions" doesn't use any non-original characters or settings.

It is completely fair to draw parallels or discuss similarities between one work and another, but something should only be called fanfic when it uses proprietary characters, worlds, etc.

Camille: I'll say our definitions of fanfic are different. I found it far too similar to the scene near end of Ender's Game.

Personally, I don't attach any negative connotations to fanfic - or I would never have talked about it. In fact, I'm generally a fan of Every Day Fiction - at least the science fiction part of it.

Sleep in peace. Even big name authors write fan fiction & big name magazines publish them; there was even a Hugo nominee (or was it Nebula?) both last year & this year of the kind. There is nothing wrong with them.
